Yacht Rally, Race and Regatta Charters offer novice and experienced sailors, families with children, cruising couples, and hard-core competitors the unique opportunity to participate in world-class yacht racing alongside professional crews. These disparate participants all agree, yacht racing is one of the most spectacular and challenging experiences of a lifetime.
This year, Select Yachts fleet includes two luxury sailing yachts registered for the ARC (Atlantic Rally for Cruisers) offering accommodations for charter guests keen on experiencing this remarkable, transoceanic adventure.
ENIGMA is a brand new, Lagoon 620 sailing catamaran that is stunning inside and out. This beamy yacht offers the utmost in comfort for a long-range sail.
LADY ANN, a 65-foot racing monohull and veteran of the ARC, is also accepting charter crew. This classic yacht is equipped with all the modern comforts. LADY ANN is a strong competitor in every race with high-tech hull design and high-performance rig.
The ARC yacht rally is a sail of approximately 2,800 nautical miles or 18-21 days for a 40-foot cruising boat. Festivities begin a week before departure with shore-side activities in Las Palmas. Yachts depart on November 10 and conclude on December 21 with a gala awards party at Rodney Bay Marina, Saint Lucia.
The ARC has several divisions, including racing and the most popular cruising division, that annually attract over 200 boats and 1200 people seeking fun, friendship, camaraderie and safe, fun passage across the Atlantic.
Crossing the Atlantic from the Canaries to Saint Lucia usually allows boats to make the most of the north east trade winds. The trade winds average 15-20 knots and are often accompanied by squalls of rain with higher winds around dusk, which can result in very exciting sailing conditions. In light winds, boats sailing in the yacht rally Cruising Division are allowed to rely on their engines.
Sail from the start in Las Palmas Gran Canaria to Mindelo, Sao Vicente, Cape Verdes. Here a three to five day stopover at Mindelo gives yacht rally crews an opportunity to discover the enchanting local culture, lively nightlife and bustling food markets that make the Cape Verdes a fascinating destination. The Cape Verdes are ideally placed for boats to sail south into seasonal winds; their latitude at 16º50’N is right in the path of the trade winds, promising a great sail for the passage to Saint Lucia.
Arrival in St. Lucia is as momentous an event for the first-over-the-line as for the last. The mood is jubilant, with lots of parties, activities and events that conclude with the high-spirited awards ceremony.
Elegant charter yachts LADY ANN and ENIGMA offer guests an unparalleled opportunity to join in a spectacular adventure that is unlike anything else on earth. Charter includes meals, beverages, limited alcohol, basic nautical training and entertainment. No previous racing experience is required.
LADY ANN, with extensive international racing experience, is professionally focused on being first over the line. ENIGMA has a very good chance to win the race in her division. Captain Andrei is a two-time ARC winner and has thousands of racing miles behind him. Captain Craig Doring, from catamaran Kiwi Pryde will also crew on board.
