Crew Profile

***SUMMER CREW***

Originally from Portsmouth, Rhode Island, a small town just north of Newport, Stephen grew up living at the waters edge, flipping over rocks to catch fiddler crabs for fishing bait and sailing with his grandfather and father on the weekends. He has great memories of being at the helm, learning and helping any way he could on board.

The family moved to Atlanta, Georgia and Stephen's thirst for adventure was quenched with freshwater fly fishing for trout, lake fishing for big bass, mountaineering, camping and mountain biking. He also played ice hockey, soccer, baseball and golf. After high school he attended Georgia Southern University then moved to Hilton Head Island, SC where he lived for 10 years before moving to St Thomas, USVI.

On Hilton Head Island, Stephen worked in the golf industry, maintaining a practice facility for a private country club and putting on teaching clinics for kids (he is GREAT with kids! He has 3 older sisters and 7 nieces and nephews!) He is still an avid golfer and loves to play whenever he can. Stephen also operated a kayak nature tour company for about 5 years on Hilton Head taking small and large groups on educational ecotours to learn about the saltwater marsh eco-system. He really enjoyed seeing people interact with the surrounding beauty and loved to facilitate their personal experiences with nature. Stephen's free time was spent kayak-fishing and surfing.

While living in Hilton Head, Stephen also was involved in the restaurant business, working long shifts in and around the kitchen, but mostly the bar. There he mastered Mixology (creating some beautiful and delicious cocktails), learned a lot about wine and overall built up a very high level of knowledge about spirits and how to concoct just about anything! His specialties are Coconut Mojitos (fresh muddled coconut that he picks and hacks open in front of you) , Spicy/Regular Margaritas ( secret infused tequilas with Stephen's jalapeno agave nectar and flavored salt rims) Garden Gimlets (a cucumber and lime vodka martini that is heaven!) and Frozen Coconut Lemonade (fresh lemon juice, grated lemon rind, coconut water and creme, raw sugar and vodka). He loves using premium ingredients that he can find inexpensively and locally in the VI.

Once Stephen moved to St Thomas, he fully immersed himself in the culture and the lifestyle. He quickly picked up free diving and spear fishing, both as a way of enjoying his days off and spending time on the water and as a way of treating himself and his friends to delicious, fresh seafood. Stephen is an avid free diver and knows all the best lobster spots .in the Virgin Islands. From jumping in the water with a snorkel and mask to seeing his guests taking the first bite of his catch, grilled to perfection, Stephen truly loves-the whole process of Sea-To-Table.

Stephen has his USCG Masters License and a STCW 95 certification. He has logged over 1000 miles sailing in the Caribbean, visiting almost every island in the Windward chain. Stephen has a lot of experience navigating on both open ocean and near-shore bodies of water. He truly enjoys the life of a sailor. On board, guests can easily encourage Stephen to play his guitar or ukulele and sing some ancient Hawaiian songs about the sea or strum and hum some Jack Johnson tunes. He is a high energy captain and couldn't be more excited about helping to make peoples' dream vacations better than they ever could imagine.

***2018 CREW***

Meet Alix and Mickey, a cheerful, hardworking team who promise a week full of laughs, adventure, and relaxation. Mickey comes from a professional ocean racing background with his father competing in multiple around the world races and teaching Mickey to sail from a very young age. Mickey became a professional skipper in Seattle at just 22, and has continued to captain yachts around the world ever since. Alix was also raised on boats with her family in the Pacific Northwest and has been cooking professionally for the last three years as a caterer and private charter chef. Though growing up they lived not more than 5 minutes apart in Seattle, it wasn’t until a sailing trip in Greece two years ago that they finally met. Two years later, they’re a captain and chef couple here in the beautiful Virgin Islands who are passionate about sailing, food, and finding the next adventure.

Both Mickey and Alix love the outdoors and spend their time off the water in the mountains backpacking, snowboarding, and hiking. On the water, though, Mickey enjoys both free diving and scuba diving and loves to take guests exploring below the surface. For the more experienced divers, he will be happy to show them wrecks and dive sites throughout the islands. For the kids and beginners he’s an experienced and wonderful teacher who will be more than happy to help as much or as little as is preferred.

While Alix also enjoys time spent in the water and is improving her diving every day, her true passion lies in the kitchen. Alix has been cooking since she was old enough to reach the stove and loves to try new foods as much as she loves to make them. Her cooking is also very reflective of her travels as both Alix and Mickey make a point to pick up spices along the way that showcase regional flavors and national culinary traditions. When she’s not cooking, Alix loves to head to shore to enjoy the beautiful local beaches and hikes that the Virgin Islands have to offer. She is always more than happy to show her guests around or even teach them a thing or two in the kitchen if they’re keen.

Guests can count on Mickey and Alix to have the hot spots in the islands dialed in. The islands are rich with hidden hideouts and floating bars, and this pair knows them all. Whether you want a week filled with adventure, a relaxing retreat for you and your family, or a romantic time on the water for you and your partner, Alix and Mickey will make sure that you wake up to the smell of fresh baked bread, that your meals are beautiful, fresh and local, and that your week is quite literally smooth sailing.
