Crew Profile

If you cant find Jens or Ji on board S/V Flip Flop preparing a gourmet meal or otherwise seeing to their guests, you are sure to find them nearby, in or under the water. Both have a strong passion for the freedom and adventure of sailing as well as the great outdoors and its wonders. They were both drawn to the ocean at an early age.

Originally from San Diego, Capt. Jens knew from the time of his first sailing lesson that his calling would be shaped by the sea. From Hobie Cat racing and scuba diving as a teenager, to serving as a Patrol Boat Captain in the U.S. Navy, his calling and connection to the ocean has always been there.
Once his service in the Navy was up, he immediately took up teaching sailing and delivering sailboats around the Caribbean. Eventually, he made his way onto larger luxury Yachts and found himself in places like the South Pacific, the Mediterranean and South America just to name a few.
After a few years on larger yachts, Jens decided that the more personal and friendly nature of smaller charter yachts was more to his liking. He loves one on one time with guests and teaching sailing to anyone who wants to learn.
Captain Jens has over 20,000 miles at sea. He is a U.S. Coast Guard 100 ton Master Captain as well as a PADI divemaster and is commercially endorsed as an Offshore Yachtmaster. He also has a U.S. drivers license that he never uses;)
Jens looks forward to teaching you to sail. He also loves Kite Boarding and would be more than willing to take you to all of the Kite Boarding "Hot Spots" in the Virgin Islands while guiding you through the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean!

Jens and Ji have sailed and chartered together for many years. Along Eastern Seaboard of the US, and within the Bahamas, and around the Caribbean Sea. Together for many years and recently married here in the islands, these two are ready to show you the trip of a lifetime. They are a one-two punch of adventurous activity, and stellar service that will bring your charter experience to new levels.

The Petersons met while traveling way out west in the American Rockies, and since then have been knocking on excitements door and looking for fun in all the right places. These are two people who take learning and educating to the next level, while always striving to try new things and perfect their skills. Come aboard Flip Flop to learn new techniques or advance your experience in all of the charter activities.

Ji grew up in South Korea surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, enjoying its calming water, breezes, and seafood. She was lured by the sea, and its mysterious charm, and eventually came to the US to study abroad and further her perspective. She has a degree in Education, and loves to incorporate that schooling into her work on board. After her studies, she spent time in the center of the worlds yachting industry in Fort Lauderdale where she was certified in Super Yacht Interior Management, Hospitality, Food Hygiene, as well as Yacht Safety.

Ji has chartered on sail boats and super yachts which makes her attention to service well-rounded. Her culinary background is extensive and covers many different types of cuisine. While she prefers to experiment with Western variations in her cooking, she loves to incorporate her Eastern background providing authentic dishes like Bulgogi, Kim Chi, and fantastic Korean BBQ. Ji brings the flavors of the world to Flip Flop and to her charter guests.

Together, Jens and Ji are fantastic team, and deliver an unforgettable experience aboard the catamaran FLIP FLOP. Come down and have a blast!

NEW Crew (Starting NOVEMBER 2017)

Captain Andrew and Chef Michaela have been working on day sailing charters as Captain and Crew for 3+ years, exploring all throughout the US and British Virgin Islands. They have been spreading their passion for sailing, snorkeling, and all around adventuring to hundreds of guests from all over the world on a daily basis. Andrew and Michaela bring this same passion to the next level on Flip Flop, offering their guests an insiders look into the splendor of the Virgin Islands.

Growing up in suburban Chicago, Andrew might be considered a late bloomer in the sailing universe, but he knew his passion for the ocean was there from an early age. He moved to San Diego for college, and proceeded to take sailing lessons immediately upon his arrival. Starting off in boats hardly bigger then himself, his passion for all things ocean continued to grow as rapidly as his sailing experience in and around Southern California. Upon graduation from San Diego State University, with a degree in hospitality & tourism, Andrew decided to focus on sailing, and became a US Sailing Certified Instructor. He spent years on San Diego teaching sailors young and old the wonders of the ocean. Andrew returned to the Midwest, for years of sailing on Lake Michigan. Upon receiving his USCG Master Captains license, Andrew decided to move Down Island to pursue his dream of becoming a full time Captain. He is now excited to continue chasing his dream, and to share his love for all things ocean with all of his guests, as he continues to grow as a diver, surfer, chef, host, bartender, and most importantly lifetime sailor.

Born and raised in the Virgin Islands, Michaela spent her childhood working at her fathers dive shop on St. John. Spending her formative years scuba diving, sailing and snorkeling she considers her-self a professional mermaid. While receiving a bachelors degree in Business Management From Five Towns College In Long Island, NY, she also established four years of gained four years of experience in the service industry, in both front and back of the house positions. She was drawn to the creative, but structured aspects of kitchen life and returned to the islands with a passion for food and hosting. Michaela spent the last three years honing her expertise and skill in the yachting industry in St. John. Highly knowledgeable about local waters and hotspots, she is excited about sharing her unique and beautiful home. She has a super energetic spirit that keeps her constantly looking for adventure and new friends.

Collectively Andrew and Michaela have traveled to 45 countries and are on a constant quest to grow and learn, while sharing their passions with others. They fell in love surrounded by the turquoise water of the Caribbean and soon after realized they made spectacular sailing partners. Their dream became a reality on a Summer sailing trip to the Greek islands, confirming their belief that sailing was meant to be their career. With their professional sailing experience, unique island expertise, and impeccable hosting backgrounds, they are ready to show their guests a one-of-a-kind, and once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
