Crew Profile

Captain Dave isn't your stereotypical charter captain. A native Texan and West Point graduate, Captain Dave spent 10 years commanding M1 tank units all over the world and 25 years in the IT industry. Although his maritime interests were stimulated at West Point, where he became an accomplished scuba diver, it would be many years before attaining his U.S. Coast Guard 100 Ton Master Mariner with Sailing Endorsement license.

Now, an avid sailor, Dave, is captain of the Pentagon Sailing Club's Racing Squadron (2016-2017), racing in as many as 180 events since 2010. Sailing and racing along the Potomac, adjacent to the nation's capital, was a constantly exciting challenge due to random shallows and tour boats competing for the narrow channel. Every race was worthwhile, enjoying the capital's beautiful scenery, historical landmarks always in sight, and the wonderful camaraderie of his racing pals.

When he's not racing, he sails recreationally as often as possible in the Virgin Islands. In contrast to sailing near D.C., the Virgin Islands offer such exotic, stunning landscapes that Dave is exhilarated to share with his guests. Captain Dave is most at home behind the helm of Nana, when his guests are relaxing, and ultimately having fun. Come soak in the good times sailing with Captain Dave!

Chef and first mate, Janice always dreamed of being a now onboard Nana she gets the chance to be one! She spent a great deal of her childhood on Oak Island, NC where her family had a cottage. As a child she took part in sailing lessons, swimming on a team for several years, lifeguarding at her community pool and anything else that kept her in the water.

While attending North Carolina State University, Janice met her husband and college sweetheart, David Walters. They married shortly after and had two incredible children, Steven and Jessica, who became their world. The kids were practically raised on the water with the family spending almost every weekend and available weekdays entertaining friends and family on their boat.

Janice’s cooking was influenced growing up on the NC beaches. Steeped in the tradition of southern seafood recipes from Southport and Oak Island as well as “handed down” recipes from mom and grandmother, Janice’s cuisine is infused with the freshest of Caribbean fare.

Janice is eager to help guests experience their own personal daily adventures whether it is a great island hike to some of the ruins and mountain top vistas, a special snorkel or that favorite local hidden beach bar. Some of her fondest memories were that first sail to Anegada with her husband, the jeep ride to remote Cow Wreck Beach, and a beautiful anniversary walk down a 7-mile beach. These little and big moments she will always hold in her heart in memory of her husband. She strives to make sure guests see more of these Caribbean treasures than ever and will not be satisfied until they discover their own magical moments!

Janice also holds her USCG Captain’s 100 Ton Masters license, STCW95 and Red Cross/ CPR certifications.
