Yacht Description

XIMERA (pronounced Shimmerer) is a beautiful Hanse 575 that launched in 2014. Charter guests will embark on their sailing adventure in style and luxury. XIMERA is an ideal option for those who appreciate cruising in a high-performance sailing machine that is spacious and comfortable. Two Hanse 575s, XIMERA and SEASIDE, were among the faster boats to enjoy smooth crossings during the ARC this year. Even their seasoned crews were impressed. XIMERA is a perfect home for your yachting holiday, whether you want to speed over the sea, or to hop island to island at a more leisurely pace. The comfortable saloon with open plan galley features a U-Shaped sofa, 40in lifting TV, Bluetooth fusion sound system below as well as in the cockpit. The yacht is air conditioned throughout. Accommodations are for six guests in three cabins. The master cabin with en-suite toilet is positioned in the bow. Three large, overhead hatches allow daylight to flood the cabin and moonlight to dazzle at night. The walk around berth features plush soft goods, individual reading lamps and convenient shelving on both sides. Two aft cabins are intelligently designed for comfort and furnished with fine linens and toiletries. Exterior social areas feature protective shade beneath removable bimini and double cockpit tables that can convert to a huge sunbathing area. The large bathing platform insures easy access for swimming and diving. XIMERA has the Williams T285 jet tender nestled in the large jet tender garage with launching system. This high-powered tender is great for water skiing and wake boarding. With a 1900-square foot gennaker plus a 23' carbon fiber pole, and state-of-the-art ocean going equipment including: water maker, solar power, sat comms and more, guests can enjoy spending time in seclusion, anchoring in more remote areas, or opt to tie up at the dock and turn heads in any port of call. Crew Profile

Captain William James Downing says, I have sailed for over 40 years and am only truly at home in or on the water. Although he was born and bred inland in Birmingham, the largest British city outside London, family vacations were spent at the seashore and he was sailing at just a few months old. When he was 10 years old he went to live with his Dad in Cornwall on a 30 catamaran. Dad rowed me ashore each morning to catch the school bus and I whistled from shore each afternoon to be picked up. Weekends wed adventure up and down the south coast. Summers wed sail across the English Channel to France; Morlaix, Roscoff, and Ile de Batz, with my three older brothers crewing as well.

Will worked at land-based jobs until his epiphany. When I was 41 I gave it all up he said, I sat the necessary exams and ran away to sea. Hed had it with the long hours and general tedium of the domestic maintenance service he owned, employing plumbers, electricians, decorators, etc. From that point forward he happily explored new horizons. He says that his favorites are many and varied: Croatia for wind reliability; Barcelona for entertainment and culture; Dominica for outstanding natural beauty on land and in the water; Western Greece for making lifelong friends.

Wills friends describe him as entertaining. He always seems to have a sparkle in his eye, a few good jokes up his sleeve, some new stories and classic tales to share. All he needs is a willing audience. He is learning to play the guitar; singing along is optional. He has worked as a professional sailing instructor and will happily teach guests to hoist the sails. He knows the best snorkel and dive spots. Guests who prefer to explore ashore need only whistle when theyre ready to return to the yacht. Because Will takes perfect care of his guests, just like they are family.

Michelle was raised in Yorkshire, and later Essex, England. As a youngster, she was passionate about playing the piano. She spent hours studying at home for the Royal School of Music graded exams and diploma, practicing on the keyboard and competing in festivals. Despite a busy schedule, this dedicated young musician also found time to be Captain of her hockey team. She went on to achieve her degree in Humanities with Music and to teach at a London school.

Michelle decided to take up sailing when she was 48 years old. She took a four-month, unpaid leave of absence and traveled to Gibraltar to take a 14 week Yachtmaster course. I loved it she said, I went home and handed in my notice. I have been sailing professionally ever since! I passed the Cruising Instructor course and have taught sailing for the last few years. She met Will while they were working for the same company and together they taught sailing in Greece and Croatia.

This past summer, while sailing XIMERA in the Balearics, Michelle had the honor of cooking for a Duke of Spain who was so impressed with her culinary skills he was ready to help finance her restaurant. But she prefers cooking at sea. Her favorite cuisine is Italian style seafood, especially a spaghetti or risotto. Guests also rave about her Apple Crumble, which contains a liberal amount of rum. When Michelle is not in the galley or otherwise busy she enjoys playing her electric piano. Theres also a guitar on board. Guests are welcome to play these instruments. Everyone sounds nearly professional after a hearty slice of Apple Crumble.
